While they're a powerful fighting force, I wonder if I should change the make-up to something more economical so I can afford a fifth or six legion. My armies are primarily Principes with three or four cavalry units, one or two balista and maybe a unit of war dogs or two units of Socii Extraordinarii. My funds are being eaten up by my four armies and two small navies (I'm still dealing with Carthage in Spain). My biggest problem now is money (how does that quote go?). I had managed to grab most of southern France at one point, but lost two regions to the onslaught. Ever turn consists of fending off another wave of attackers coming through the Alps or Pyrenees. While I'm not threatened from the south or East, the barbarians of the north and west are hounding me relentlessly. I'm well into my first Very Hard game and I'm seriously struggling.
